Hi to the women of FREEDOM STUDIO!
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. It is time we finally start learning & understanding our bodies better. Learning about your menstrual cycle pre and post menopause can influence your health, choices, and ability to give yourself grace on so many levels. When I read “IN THE FLO” by Alisa Vitti (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) I finally EXHALED and had AH - HA moments. I was enlightened with knowledge of my female body and hormones that made my life make more sense.
Have you ever gotten irritated with yourself for getting bloated? Feeling up & down with your energy? Feeling like one day you can go for a run but another you just want to stay on the couch? SAME. In this blog post I am highlighting a few gold nuggets of wisdom to get you started and help you exercise at FREEDOM according to where you are in your cycle.
STEP 1: LEARN ABOUT + TRACK YOUR CYCLE.
A healthy cycle is *usually* anywhere from 28 - 35 days in length. Download MyFLO, Clue, or Natural Cycles Apps from your App Store to start discovering your own cycle. My favorite is MyFLO because it includes what your hormones are doing, how to focus, exercise, and eat all on the app (scroll to bottom for more resources).
To the right is your CYCLE PHASES
1-4 Menstruation (bleed!) rest & relax!
6-11 Follicular Phase (energy starts to increase!) upbeat movement + leafy veggies + socialliizzeee!
12-16 Ovulation (you could get preg!) high energy, confidence, and feeling sexy.
17-28 Luteal Phase (which has TWO phases!) The first half you are still energized & vibrant. The second half PMS may start to creep in. Focus on taking care of yourself, say NO more often, and set firm boundaries - otherwise you could become more irritated.
Step 2: LEARN YOUR OWN BODY!
It is important to be very in tune to your own unique and beautifully crafted body. I started by using a journal to write down my food, drink, and exercise intake followed by my energy & cravings + how a workout made me feel. The purpose of this is NOT to shame yourself but to understand yourself. What food gives you a stomach ache? What workout leave you feeling stronger?
step 3: Sync your EXERCISE routine w/ your cycle!
Step 4: Sync other areas of your life
There is a lot to CYCLE SYNC & it can feel overwhelming! (exercise, food, social life etc)
PRO TIP: START in ONE AREA
Example start syncing your exercise FIRST!
Then sync, NUTS + SEEDS
Then sync, protein!
& so on….
